CHARLIE'S COUNTRY SCREENING: 3rd JANUARY 2015
When: Saturday January 3rd 2015 at 2pm
Where: Perth Activist Centre, 5/15 Aberdeen Street Perth
Facebook Event: https://www.facebook.com/events/578200145646849/?ref=2&ref_dashboard_filter=upcoming
The Nyoongar Tent Embassy's vision is to unify all Tribal Sovereign people to pursue our inherent, universal and indivisible right to self-determination for all present and future generations.
We are currently planning to travel to and attend a National gathering of Sovereign tribes in Canberra on the 26th of January, 2015 to sign and handover a Declaration of Independence - but we need YOUR support to make it happen!
We also intend to participate in a National gathering to be held on the 13th of February (also in Canberra) marking the Anniversary of the National Apology, which will address the ongoing forcible removal of Aboriginal children from their families.
We are organising this film screening as part of our fundraising efforts - entry is by donation - please give generously!
This is a must-see film that you won't want to miss...
Written by Rolf de Heer and David Gulpilil as a collaborative project, CHARLIE’S COUNTRY stars Gulpilil as blackfella Charlie, who is getting older, and is out of sorts. The government’s intervention is making life more difficult on his remote community, what with the proper policing of whitefella laws that don't generally make much sense, and Charlie's kin seeming more interested in going along with things than doing anything about it.
So Charlie takes off, to live the old way, but in doing so sets off a chain of events in his life that has him return to his community chastened, and somewhat the wiser..
