A 14-year-old Original Custodian child from the Bundjalling nation Widjaba; Wybal was taken by Lismore Military Task Force who told him they only wanted to question him at the police station. The Task Force surrounded the house and told his mother the child had breached his order. However, the 14 year old went to court the day before and was informed by the Juvenile Justice Officer, who has regular check ups with him, that he did not breach any orders.
The Military Task Force used excessive force on him and his sister, who is also under the age of 18, and who was later arrested for hindering police. At the station the police took their phones off them and said they were using them as evidence. The 14-year-old child was then grabbed by the throat and lifted a metre from the ground and brutally bashed by police. At no time was he offered bail or given medical attention or legal aid, even though he was under age.
The police kept him in custody until late Friday night and then transferred him to Grafton Detention Centre, where he will remain until his court appearance on Monday morning. The child will appear in Parramatta Children's Court, which is a long way from his home and family, and there will be no support there for this child. The mother now has great concerns for her other son who is in detention in Sydney. The mother has now been threatened by the Lismore Police who say they will take her other children.
